Knit blankets, hats, and booties with Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans

Virtual Opportunity | April 2021

I’ve always loved to make things, whether it’s crocheting, knitting, or sewing.

This opportunity was able to combine my love for service and my love for crocheting. In this opportunity, I crocheted hats for children through the Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans’s ACCESS pregnancy clinic.

Through this program, I was able to donate handmade hats, booties, and blankets to mothers in need. I was in contact with the volunteer director, and she instructed me to mail the items that I have made to her. I ended up crocheting two hats for 0-6 months old and mailing them to the address provided. The hats were fairly simple to make, and I already had the yarn to make them. It was a lot of fun getting back into an old hobby even though I hadn’t practiced for a few months.

Overall, it was a great experience knowing that something I made could have such a positive impact on families in need. I hope the families that receive the items I made appreciate them as much as I enjoyed making them.
