This baby knit octopus can be such a memorable item in our Care Packages we give to families with critically ill newborns in the hospital. It can be that comfort item they always leave with their baby. Once the parent holds the baby octopus for a while it can be left in the isolette with baby so the mother or father’s scent remains with the baby. This can help with the bond between parent and child.
The baby octopus is also a great item to use as a measurement reference for baby’s in the hospital. It is small enough to fit in the isolette without getting in the way. Parents can use the octopus to take pictures of their baby every week. This can help them judge how much their baby has grown over the course of their hospital stay. It makes for a great keepsake for both parent and child.
