Help students with cognitive or physical disabilities ride horses

with Xenophon Therapeutic Riding Center


As a volunteer with Xenophon, you would be trained to the following: light chores, learning the responsibilities and how to put on a helmet properly, learn about the skills of a “side walker” (this role is when you walk and trot next to the student while they are on horseback and use proper safety holds), be punctual for your shifts, make a commitment to volunteer for a minimum of 4 months/one time per week. A mandatory training clinic of 4 hours is required and provided at our center.

  • Volunteer credit is offered.
  • OTHER INFO: All volunteers must be 14 years or older. We teach students between the ages 2 1/2 to 18 who have cognitive and/or physical disabilities and some of those are cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, Autism Spectrum Disorder, muscular dystrophy, hearing/visual/speech impairments and so forth.
  • WHEN: Our season of operation is mid February to mid November. Monday-Thursday 2:15 p.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday mornings 8:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.
